Dice roller

Two dice of 6 with draws 0 and 3 show 1 and 4, so the sum is 1 + 4 = 5. The count runs from 1 to 20, and the sides run from 2 to 100.

Why this exists

A die starts at 1 and ends at its side count. Draws 0 and 3 on 6 sides become 1 and 4 because the page adds 1 to the remainder.

The random-number page picks any integer range. This page always starts at 1 and ends at the sides.

  1. 01How to use it

Enter count 2 and sides 6, then press roll.

    The buttons 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 20, and 100 fill the sides field.

Copy puts one line such as 1 + 4 = 5 on the clipboard.

  2. 02What you get

    2 dice, 6 sides, draws 0 and 3 are 1 + 4 = 5.

    1 die, 6 sides, draw 5 is 6.

    1 die, 20 sides, draw 19 is 20.

    Entered2 dice · 6 sides · 0, 3

    2 · 6 · 0, 3 1 + 4 = 5
    1 · 6 · 5 6
    1 · 20 · 19 20
    3 · 4 · 0, 0, 0 1 + 1 + 1 = 3
  3. 03Worth knowing

    3 dice, 4 sides, draws 0, 0, and 0 are 1 + 1 + 1 = 3.

Count 0 and count 21 stop. Sides 1 and 101 stop too.

Closing the tab clears the faces. Nothing is sent to a server.

Questions

QWhat do draws 0 and 3 do on 6 sides?
AThey are 1 and 4, and the sum is 1 + 4 = 5.
QWhat is draw 19 on 20 sides?
AIt is 20. That is draw 19 plus 1.
QWhat about 21 dice?
AIt stops. The count runs from 1 to 20.
QIs this the random-number page?
ANo. Random numbers use any integer range, and dice start at 1.

How this page works it out

This page rolls die faces from 1 through the number of sides. On 6 sides, draw 0 is 1 and draw 5 is 6. Two dice of 6 with draws 0 and 3 are 1 and 4. The sum is 1 + 4 = 5. One die shows only the face. Draw 19 on 20 sides is 20. Three dice of 4 with draws 0, 0, and 0 are 1 + 1 + 1 = 3.

The count runs from 1 to 20. Zero dice and 21 dice stop. Sides run from 2 to 100, and 1 side, 101 sides, and 6.5 stop. A draw is a 32-bit value. The leftover above a multiple of the side count is dropped and drawn again, so each face is equally likely.

The roll stays in this browser. The random-number page can pick an integer range that does not start at 1. This page always starts at 1 and ends at the sides. Closing the tab clears the faces. Nothing is sent to a server.
